How to care for cut flowers and make them last longer?

Cut flowers are a fantastic way to add beauty and life to your home or office. But like all living plants, they don’t last forever. However, with proper care and attention, you can make cut flowers last longer and enjoy them for days or even weeks. Here are some care tips to keep your cut flowers beautiful for as long as possible.

First, when choosing cut flowers, look for recently cut flowers that are in the early stages of blooming. Avoid wilted or discoloured petals, as these may indicate that the flower has already passed its prime. Also check the stems; they should be firm and green with no signs of yellowing or drying out.

Once you’ve chosen your flowers, trim them fresh before placing them in the vase. Use sharp scissors or garden shears and make sure to cut the flowers neatly and at an angle so the stem absorbs more water. If possible, place the cut stems directly in lukewarm water; this helps reduce the formation of air bubbles in the stem, which can prevent it from absorbing water properly.

Next, find a suitable vase for your bouquet or flower arrangement and fill it with water. Some of my favourite vases include Iittala vases like Marimekko vases, Aalto vases, and Kastehelmi vases, as well as Arabia vases and Kähler vases. Hay vases are colourful and Muurla vases offer adjustable vases for flowers of different heights. Consider using flower preservatives, which help extend the life of flowers by providing essential nutrients that promote healthy growth while protecting against bacteria in the vase water – so you can enjoy your beautiful flowers even longer!

Finally, try to keep the arrangement away from direct sunlight and drafts, which can cause rapid wilting; instead, place it in an area with plenty of indirect light, such as near a window but avoid direct sunlight during peak hours (midday to 4 PM). It’s also good to spray the flowers daily with lukewarm water (especially roses), as it helps maintain their moisture better than regular tap water!

By following these simple guidelines, you can extend the life of your beautiful bouquet by days or even weeks! So choose fresh cut flowers – with proper care, you can enjoy them much longer than usual!

Creative ways to display cut flowers in your home

Flowers are a beautiful addition to any home, but they don’t have to be limited to traditional vases. There are many creative ways to display cut flowers that make them stand out and add extra beauty and charm. Here are some ideas for displaying cut flowers in your home:

  1. Hang them up – If you have a staircase or other vertical space, hang the flowers with string or wire to create an unexpected twist to your flower arrangements. You can also hang them from the ceiling with macramé or use decorative hooks and clips for a unique look.
  2. Make a flower wreath – Instead of just placing the stems in a vase, try making a flower wreath using the spiral technique. You can add a beautiful silk ribbon for an extra special touch.
  3. Let them float – Place several individual stems in shallow bowls filled with water and let them float around for a dreamy effect that is perfect for both the bathroom and the bedroom.
  4. Create a flower arrangement on a tray – Gather all your favourite flowers on a tray to create an eye-catching centrepiece that is sure to draw attention wherever it is placed!
  5. A single flower in a vase – Create simple beauty in your home with one or two flowers in a small vase or Japanese kenzai arrangement.

With these creative ideas, you can make any room feel more alive with the beauty of fresh cut flowers! Be boldly creative – you never know what unique arrangement you might come up with! If you want to order flowers home, you can easily do it from here.
