What are easy-care green indoor plants?
Easy-care green indoor plants are usually:
- Porcelain flower
- Rubber tree
- Parasol pilea
- Orchid
- Calathea
- Cactus
- Lady palm
- Spider plant
- Devil’s ivy
- Aloe
- Snake plant
Porcelain flower
Porcelain flower is a popular green plant known for its versatile leaves and flower clusters. The plant can grow as a climbing plant, bush, or hanging plant. Beginners can start with easier species such as Hoya carnosa, Hoya pubicalyx, and Hoya australis.
Porcelain flower should be planted in a relatively small clay pot in relation to its size, as some species naturally grow as epiphytes, that is, on other plants. Therefore, they thrive in sparse soil. Climbing species need support, while hanging species are best suited for hanging pots.
Porcelain flower thrives in a bright spot but should not be exposed to direct sunlight. The flowers can vary greatly and often have a pleasant fragrance. When watering, it is important to let the soil dry out between waterings to avoid damaging the roots.
Rubber tree
Rubber tree is one of Sweden’s most common green indoor plants, and its popularity is partly due to its beautiful and easy-care nature. The rubber tree’s characteristic feature is its shiny, green leaves that create a fantastic contrast to other green indoor plants. The rubber tree thrives best in indirect light as direct sunlight can burn the leaves and damage the plant. This plant is also very sensitive to drafts, so its location should not be changed often. Caring for the rubber tree is simple, it only requires regular watering and fertilizing. The leaves should be wiped regularly to keep the plant healthy and beautiful. If you are looking for a beautiful and easy-care green plant, the rubber tree is an excellent choice.
Parasol pilea
Parasol pilea is a very easy-care and fast-growing plant that is especially suitable for impatient plant lovers. This elegant plant keeps its owner busy by constantly shooting out new shoots and cuttings. Parasol pilea’s care is simple, it only needs regular watering and light. The plant also does not require any special soil, but thrives well in regular potting soil.
Parasol pilea can grow up to a meter high and is excellent for larger spaces such as living rooms and halls. The plant’s leaves are large and round, and their green shades vary from light to dark. Parasol pilea’s flowers are small and white and appear rarely.
Parasol pilea is best propagated by cuttings that root easily. You can either leave them in the same pot as the mother plant to make the plant bushier, or plant them in new pots and let them spread throughout your home. Parasol pilea’s cuttings are also a great way to share the plant with friends and family.
Orchid
Orchid needs light but not direct sunlight. It thrives at room temperature and in a special soil mix that consists of various bark pieces. Water when the roots are gray and the plant feels light. Water with room temperature water, let the excess water drain off, and then fill the pot with decorative stones and water up to the edge of the stones. Fertilize the orchid once a month during flowering. Otherwise, the orchid is an easy-care houseplant that blooms for a long time.
Calathea
Calathea is very popular as a green plant and is especially known for its fantastic colors and lush foliage. These plants thrive best in a slightly shady and humid place without large temperature variations, making them ideal for, for example, halls or bathrooms where it is usually cooler and more humid.
The soil for calathea should be slightly moist all the time to prevent the plant from drying out. This means that the plant should be watered regularly, but not too much so that the soil becomes too wet. Too much moisture can cause the roots to rot and the plant to die. Use soft water when watering, as calathea does not tolerate hard or calcareous water.
Calathea should also be sprayed regularly to keep the leaves moist and give the plant enough moisture. However, the spraying should not be done in direct sunlight, as this can cause burns on the leaves. With proper care, calathea can become a beautiful and durable houseplant that delights its owner year after year.
Green plants in my home
In my home, there are currently orchids, monstera, zamiakalla, porcelain flower, and parasol pilea. In the spring, I also bring in a fig tree that is now in winter storage at my parents’ place. I brighten up my home with these green plants as well as cut flowers and tulips.
Although these green plants are easy to care for, it is important to remember that each plant has its own needs and requirements. Careful and regular care ensures that these easy-care plants remain healthy and beautiful year after year. Green plants indoors not only improve indoor air quality but also contribute to well-being and create a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere in the home or office.
